Freshen Your Space for Spring

Spring is in the air, and with it, come longer days, warmer temperatures and brighter colors all around us. Our homes should feel lighter and brighter this time of year as well. With these five simple tips, you can give your space a refresh with ease.

1. Mix in Natural Materials
Adding simple accent pieces that are made with natural materials will instantly make a space feel less bulky and more organic. Textures like bamboo, wicker, sisal and jute will add dimension and levity. This can be done through inexpensive accent pieces like small-scale chairs, end tables and especially rugs.

2. Let There Be Light
A very simple way to brighten any room is by adding in extra lighting like table, floor and accent lamps. Take it a step further by switching out lampshades seasonally. This is a simple yet stunning way to change the look of a room with ease. You’ll look forward to bringing out your new shades every spring!

3. Dress Your Windows
Many people underestimate the impact of window treatments, yet the right textiles will make a room look and feel “finished.” Likewise, changing your curtains twice a year - once in the spring and once in the fall - will transform its entire look. Opt for a light floral fabric or even a simple, sheer fabric in the warmer months and switch to something heavier - like velvet or plaid - for the cooler months.

4. Change Up Your Throw Pillows
Likewise, accent pillows will also update any piece of furniture with minimal effort. There are countless options for gorgeous pillows. I love having custom versions made from my favorite textile houses. It takes limited fabric, allowing you to change them out often in keeping with the season. It’s also a great way to try a print or design on a small accessory before committing to it on a larger purchase like window treatments and furnishings.

5. Embrace Fresh Flowers
There is nothing like fresh flowers to breathe life, both literally and figuratively, into your space. I love working with Denver’s Flower Power to create fabulous arrangements any time of year, but especially so in the spring when beautiful blooms such as peonies are in season. However, fresh flowers can also be a simple DIY effort. A few stems picked up from the grocery store or snipped from your own garden and placed in a pretty vase can make a big difference in any room of the home.
