Exploring Hibiscus Hill
Brit turned Bahamian tastemaker India Hicks is known for her laid back, impossibly chic sense of style. The aristocratic islander’s eponymous lifestyle brand has, over the years, included a fashion accessories line, three design books, and a retail storefront in her adopted hometown of Harbour Island.
One of the former Ralph Lauren model’s latest ventures is a series of dreamy Harbour Island homes, aptly named Hibiscus Hill for the tropical foliage that surrounds it. The homes consist of The Guest House, Cricket Pavilion, and Kings Treat, all on Harbour Island. On nearby Windermere Island also sits Savannah, the former home of Hicks’ father, interior design icon David Hicks.
The Guest House, pictured above, boasts large verandas for relaxing the day away.
“When we built the guest house we learned the importance of porches and verandas,” Hicks explains. “A generous veranda and a really good mattress merited investment, after all visitors spend most of their time on the beach, on the veranda, or in bed!”
Like each of the homes on Hibiscus Hill, The Guest House is designed in a simple yet elegant style that evokes a casual sense of sophistication. As Hicks’ longtime family friend Ralph Lauren puts it, ““I have my own houses in the islands and I applaud the effort that must have gone into achieving what India and David have created. The seductive combination of international lives, classic British good taste (including its eccentricities), and the traditions and flavour of the Caribbean - cannot fail to inspire anyone who has the good fortune to land here.”
The home sleeps up to 8 guests and has 2 King en suites and 2 twin bedrooms. Modern conveniences like WiFi, a generator and air conditioning make the experience equally authentic and comfortable.
